There are numerous small islands, and two large ones : Unguja (the main island, informally referred to as "Zanzibar Island") and Pemba Island. Zanzibar was once a separate state with a long trading history within the Arab world; it united with Tanganyika to form Tanzania in 1964.
Zanzibar has a lot to offer with regard to tourism. Colorful culture, amazing nature and most of all a peaceful and harmonic atmosphere.
The main industries are spices, raffia and tourism.
There is plenty for ocean and beach lovers to do in Zanzibar Island : snorkelling and scuba diving (more than 350 different fish species), fishing trips, or simply relaxing on the beach and taking a swim in the azure waters.
Zanzibar Island is one of the top beach destinations in Africa, combining white-sand beaches, tropical blue waters of Indian Ocean, exotic spices and vibrant cultures.
